About Us

A family chalet with 70 years of stories in the Dolomites

Chalet Cortina d’Ampezzo is more than a mountain house – it is the heart of the Rinaldi family. For three generations, our family has welcomed guests to this little corner of the Dolomites, sharing the warmth of our home, our love for the mountains and the simple joy of slow, alpine days.

The story begins in the early 1950s, when Nonno Alberto Rinaldi, a carpenter from a small village near Cortina, decided to build a wooden house on a sunny slope surrounded by larch and pine trees. What started as a modest farmhouse soon became a place where travellers stopped for a glass of wine, a bowl of hot soup and a bed by the fire.

Today, the chalet is lovingly run by Elena and Luca Rinaldi, Alberto’s grandchildren. Together with their parents, Marta and Giovanni, they have transformed the old farmhouse into a cozy winter retreat while keeping every beam of wood and every corner full of family memories.

Our Story

From Nonno Alberto’s dream to today’s chalet

Every family has a place where all stories begin. For the Rinaldis, that place is this house. Over the decades, the chalet has seen heavy winters, long summers, children learning to ski, harvests of apples and grapes, and guests arriving from all over the world.

1954
The first stone
Young carpenter Alberto Rinaldi buys a small piece of land above Cortina and starts building a wooden farmhouse with his own hands, using larch and spruce from the nearby forest.
1970s
A house that welcomes travellers
As ski tourism grows, Alberto and his wife Lucia begin welcoming guests. They offer simple rooms, homemade polenta, speck and stories told around the kitchen table.
1990s
The second generation
Their children, Marta and Giovanni, expand the house, add new rooms and large windows to bring the Dolomites right into the living room, but keep the soul of the old farmhouse.
Today

How we host you

Family values in every detail of your stay

When you sleep at Chalet Cortina d’Ampezzo, you sleep where the Rinaldis have celebrated Christmases, New Year’s dinners and countless birthdays. Each bedroom is created as if we were preparing it for someone we love – with soft duvets, natural materials and small details that make you feel taken care of.

Our family believes that true luxury is time and attention. That’s why we welcome only a small number of guests, so that we can be present, listen to what you need and help you discover the most beautiful corners of our mountains.

  • Cozy bedrooms with wooden ceilings, soft textiles and mountain or forest views.
  • Homemade breakfast prepared by Marta with local products and recipes from Nonna Lucia.
  • Personal tips from Elena and Luca about ski slopes, hikes and hidden spots in Cortina.
  • Private wellness area to relax after a day outside, just a few steps from your room.
Genuine care
We host you the way we host our own friends – with warmth, patience and attention to the small details that make a stay unforgettable.
Respect for the mountains
The Dolomites are our home. We encourage slow travel, quiet walks, local food and leaving nature exactly as you found it.
Tradition & comfort
We keep the atmosphere of an old family home, but add modern comfort – from the wellness area to the soft lighting and high-quality bedding.

“For us, this chalet is not a project – it is our family album.” Every beam of wood, every photograph on the wall and every corner of the house holds a memory of the Rinaldi family. When you decide to stay with us, you don’t just book a place in the Dolomites – you step into a story that began more than seventy years ago and continues with every guest who crosses our door.
